 | Paris Bastille Reviews | 1 - 10 of 14 | | Been there a few times and really like it! The small Irish pub is located at Place de Bastille, and therefore has a good view from outside the bar. Not a big place, but really cozy and with good Irish beer. Thursday night is students night (happy hour 18h-21h), and they also show live sports sometimes. The owner is friendly, and this is a good place to go have a few beers before you head on... Open daily; 11h - 2h with lunch from 12h - 15h

The Opera Bastille was a very controversial project -- part of Mitterrand's legacy. It was meant to bring opera to the people. Designed by Canadian architect Carlos Ott, it opened on July 14th 1989. Many find its facade and interior ugly -- but in talking to a singer friend of ours who has performed there, it is a terrific building for the singers and staff as well as providing excellent sound and sightlines for the audience. . We attended a performance of Richard Strauss' "Adriane auf Naxos" and were delighted with the performance and puzzled by the surroundings! I often look at the coming event, but i haven't been yet. I simply go to the FNAC BASTILLE , nextdoor of the opera... As soon as i can afford it, I shall go and enjoy a wonderful Mozart opera...
better no jeans: make an effort this time Theme: ConcertAddress: Place de la BastilleDirections: You can't miss the modern architecture of this opera, once you're on the spot.

A small bar with great techno music (and a very attractive bartender!) They have an after-hours license and it will be packed after 2am. I didn't speak a word of French but had a great time drinking and dancing with locals. Negative: A unisex squat toilet. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubDirections: Bastille neighborhood

Around Bastille, mainly Rue de Lappe, is my favourite street come Friday and Saturday night, and actually come to think about it after work on a weekday as well!! My favourite bar, mainly for it's prices which are extremelly low for being Paris, is Some Girls bar at the end of Rue de Lap without its name above the door, just a sign of a woman.... And then there is the corner bar, which I never remember what it's called, but it's the first bar on Rue de Lap opposite the crepe place and it looks kind of dark but has huge windows and big screen tvs. The cocktails are amazing and during happy hour only €5, a total bargain! And then of course Bastille is great cause of the atmosphere it creates, not too surprising really considering the amount of bars and restaurants there are there!! Just go and you'll see what I mean! :-D
Absolutely whatever! (Well I would recommend wearing shoes of some sort as when there are lots of bars like that, there is a tendancy for glass outside the bars too....) I hosted a VTers/Fodorite meet at Le Train Bleu my last night in Paris November 2006. Folks who showed up were Mariev (Marie from Paris), Pixfield (Steve a math professor from NY), shrimp56 (my dear friend, Sally, who posts as sfowler on Fodors who hails from Chicago), Tsarina (the lovely Judy from Louisville, KY who posts as starspinners on Fodors), tini58de (Christine from Germany), madschick (her husband, Heinz), famed tour guide Michael Osman and his partner, Scott Emerson, Nikki from Fodors, Jeannine (Therese from Fodors), mittnic (Johannes from Stockholm, Sweden) and a couple who were leaving the next day and didn't have reservations so we asked them to join us. Can't remember what I drank as I was so tired from our walk with Michael that day of a tour of the Philippe-Auguste wall, plus I was thrilled to finally meet so many fabulous VTers and Fodorites! The place is filled to the gills with gorgeous gilded ceilings with painted murals depicting scenes where le Train Bleu once made its run. And of course anyone who is a fan of Luc Besson will recognize this place as the film setting for Nikita! Photos: November 2006

Fiona & I got rather partial to the Kirs on offer in Café Phare ! ;-) It's a very chatty kind of place, though the service was a bit slow IMO.

I've never seen so many bars and clubs in one place ! I was staying in an hotel in the area and every night I went to another club or bar got drunk and happy ! Best place in the area is What's Up Bar which is known as one of the most popular and trendy places to party in Paris . Plays a variety of electronic beats and has some nice cocktails and wonderful atmosphere thanks to the cool staff and wonderful interior design ! If you are going to Paris, you might want to go to an concert or ballet. It was quite surprising the amount of younger people there. The theater was sold out as well.
People didn't dress as upscale as I thought they would. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Along with Manhattan, THE place in the world for night life. The area around the Bastille has some great clubs. Again, check a good guide book for latest hot spots and places to go. If you are into Jazz, African music, techno- it's all there. French ' joie de vivre ' ( love of living ) is in evidence. You won't feel out of it in Paris. Feel the buzz , let the atmosphere wash over you.
Smart and casual. Check before turning up. Leave a Comment Theme: TheaterDirections: Try Bastille area , but plenty of others. Just ' chiiling out ' near the Eiffel tower on a warm summer's night is an experience in itself. Really.Other Contact: Try Rough Guide or Let's Go. The
