Montmartre away to the north of the city centre on the tallest hill in the city, is the most unabashedly romantic district of Paris. Montmartre is the last village in the big city of Paris. It still keeps a very subtle and unique atmosphere in spite of the affluence of tourists from all over the world. The many painters of Place du Tertre are always ready to sketch out your face. They remind us of the many pennyless artists who lived there a Bohemian life in the early 20th century. Over the course of the hill, there are gardens, steep streets and lovely old houses. The area can very very popular and very crowded during the weekends. Try and visit on weekends. Leave a Comment

Sacre Coeur is a landmark in Montmatre and it enjoys fabulous panoramic views in all directions. The plans to build a church to the Sacred Heart on the hill at Montmartre asked for a style of Romano-Byzantine. The first step in this plan was to lay the first stone in 1875. It took until 1914 to complete the building but it was then not concencrated until 1919 after the first world war had ended. Inside the church you will find one of the worlds largest mosaics which depicts Christ with arms outstretched. Location: 35 rue du Chevalier de la Barre Leave a Comment

Under Sacre Couer are catacombs that are sppoky and fun to visit. I don't remember if there was an admission charge (I think so.) But it was worth it because it was really cool. Leave a Comment

Atmospheric, and very photogenic, the only remaining vineyard in Paris is one of the hidden delights of the city. Few know about it but once it's been discovered, it will always draw you back. Its 2000 vines lie on a gentle slope behind the Museum of Montmartre, near the Lapin Agile nightclub. This area has to be one of the most beautiful in Paris. The opening shots of the movie Amelie were filmed on the street right beside this vineyard and the area is full of picture postcard images of Paris. Winding streets, steep staircases, prettty houses....don't miss it. Leave a Comment

In a beautiful old building in the heart of Montmartre there is an interesting museum with exhibits dedicated to artists who have lived in the surrounding area. Leave a Comment

Not really off the beaten - but great for an evening in Paris: Go to Montmartre. See the church up above, walk through the small and colorful streets, sit in one of the dozens of cafes or restaurants and enjoy the fun. One other suggestion for a funand romantic evening would be to come to the Trocadero in the evening before the sun set. Sit and watch the Eiffel. You won't be alone there - be sure of that, but the Eiffel is becoming lit up and it's very romantic. Leave a Comment

Sacre-Coeur. This cathedral sits on top of the Momtmartre hill. It's a mixture of Romanesque and Byzantine. It's a rather interesting church because it is in Paris, but it is so typically Oriental. It is bright white and really stands out. Inside one can go underground to the crypt or to the top of the cupola. Leave a Comment

Montmartre - Place du Tertre. Stroll along this area, where many artists and street entertainers like the ones in this photo can be found. Personally, I love this particular part of Paris! ;) Leave a Comment
