 | Paris Montmartre & Sacré Coeur Reviews | 41 - 50 of 69 | | The Sacre Coeur is situated at Parvis du Sacre Coeur. Having been to Paris twice before this was the first time I had found the Sacre Coeur. This is a truly beautiful place to go and see. The entrance fee is 15F per person. Children under 6 years are FREE. The area around the Sacre Coeur (Montmartre) is also worth visiting as you can see the artist's at work painting the church. The pictures although original and good are very expensive around £150 for a decent size painting. You will probably be pestered by art sellers trying to paint your portrait but just ignore them and walk away. The area leading to the Sacre Coeur (the 'Pigalle' - correct me if I am wrong) is a very dodgy area to be in. Be very aware of your bag at all times as there are some pretty shady people that hang about. This is also a very sleazy area of the city with lots of strip clubs and sex shops. The world famous 'Moulin Rouge' is located here. Leave a Comment

Montmartre Area. It's becoming more toursity after the release of 'Amelie', but it still is a terribly romantic part of Paris. Oh, and of course, the famous Moulin Rouge dance hall is there! Leave a Comment

The area around the well-known Moulin Rouge below the Montmartre hill is a kind of a red light district in Paris. Lots of sex shops, party places, peep shows and bars there, so it's an interesting sight for a change, when you're fed up with sightseenig... be a bit careful when walking there at night though. Just below the Sacre Coeur, there is an Artist Market. There you find numerous artists selling their painting in the open air. Walk along the Seine River and look for another Open Air Market. Thats where you can find souvenirs at reasonable prices. Leave a Comment

Go to the Bohemian Montmartre, where you walk along the cobbled streets, which once inspired Picasso and takes you into the Sacre Coeur Basilica and enjoy the paintings on display. Then proceed to Notre Dame on the other side of the river. Enjoy the unique architecture.

When you visit Montmartre, take a detour from Place du Tertre and head to the vineyard. You'd hardly believe you were in the middle of a great city.

Enjoy a walk up the 130 m hill after dark. Montmartre was the heart of artistic life. Even now you can see many artist drawing, painting .... there. Don't forget to taste thier delicious crepes. Leave a Comment

If you find yourself in the Monmartre one evening and you don't fancy mingling with the tourists and artists, then take a stroll down the Rue Caulaincourt where the locals hang out after-hours. There are some really nice bars and restaurants down this way that often get missed as it's outside the 'tourism zone'. After you've done whiling the evening away, get lost in the streets and admire the architecture and townhouses/apartments on your way back to the main drag.

My fondest Paris memory was a walk/hike to the base of the Sacre Coeur Basilica early in the morning, at around 8am. None of the tourists were there - just some cleaning people and beggards setting up their money cups/positions... and lots of pigeons. The ascend to the top is breathtaking, and the fact that we were the onle people around made it special. At the top of it, a panorama of a Paris waking up is very special. Leave a Comment

The only vineyard in Paris... Next to Montmatre Museum and St Vincent Cemetery. Leave a Comment
