 | Paris Parks, Gardens, and Squares Reviews | 11 - 20 of 175 | | This place is really modern, from its architecture to its situation. Close to the old Palais Royal and its heavy historical background, it was pretty pretentious to build such a modern fountain... But, in the end, it's a pretty good melting of two different artistic inspirations... Leave a Comment

This enormous park is the largest green space in Paris, filled with modern sculpture and entertainment venues. The park's cheif architect is Bernard Tschumi. He planned the park as an enormous 'event' for people. There are 26 very large red 'folies', the size of small houses. Some of them you can climb into, and others have cafe's in them. Around the park there is a Museum, Conservatoire, Art Centre, a vast 'hands-on' Science Centre. So there is loads and loads to do, whatever the weather. DIRECTIONS The park is located to the north of Paris city centre, in the suburbs of the 19th arondissement. Metro stations 'Porte de la Villette' (Science Centre) or 'Porte de Pantin' (Information Bureau and Conservatoire). Leave a Comment

A ménagerie in Quartier Latin area. A real and exciting discovery in 1984. Introduction to the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, bufflalo and rhino). Really enjoyed it. Above all, bears were my favourite there, in their pits. First time I saw them too. Enclosures were so tiny that animals had to be close by (!). Oh! and these other new things: ostriches, the cats (lions, leopards.. ), lamas, girafes. Its collection of ungulates is oddly large considering its size & according to standards. Returned again in 2000. Moving to see that so many years passed. I was sent back in time again. I remembered then I was introduced to kangaroos & pink flamingoes in 84. I really recommend it if you visit Paris with kids. Always a real running-off. People would go to Zoo de Vincennes but this one, for me, was special. Smallness made it nice & when bored of bonding with wildlife, it's easy to walk off & stroll the University area again. This integral part of the National Museum of Natural History was built to replace the Royal menagerie of Versailles in 1794. No wonder the still old-fashioned flair. Hereafter website is a presentation (in English) of the Jardin des Pantes and its Menagerie. http://www.paris-trendy.com/G_/M_05/GUIDE_Musee_MNHN_1_e.html For more pics, please check hereafter website. As a kid, my preference went to the fauna in la Ménagerie instead of flora in Le Jardin des plantes. Anyway, following are tips about Le jardin des plantes gatherings... and free pruning roses lessons! Leave a Comment

The gardens of the Palais Royal exist for centuries and a lot of important historical events began or took place there... Now, it's just a nice place to relax during summer, play "petanque" or have some minutes outside, facing the sun, when you're a buzy businessman working in the neighbourhood with just a few time to lunch.... You can enjoy a great view of Paris from Parc de Belleville, a small park almost hidden in the busy area of Belleville in the 20th district. Belleville is far from being one of Paris's nicer neighbourhoods though it does have a certain buzz to it. It is mostly populated by immigrants though the cheap rents have attracted French students and twenty-somethings. Other than the park there is little to see in this area though the different immigrant communities give it a bit of character. To get to the park take Rue de Couronnes from Boulevard de Belleville or Rue Piat from Rue de Belleville. Leave a Comment

We pass a few times while raining without stopping but in our last day, we enjoyed a sunny weather for a while so we got to the parks. The gardens and palace are beautiful, and you can find some statues with the queens of France Leave a Comment Phone: Jardins du Luxembourg, 75006 ParOther Contact: Metro Luxembourg, Port Royal

Belleville is a traditionally working- class district in the east of Paris. I think I first heard of Belleville from Puccini's opera Il tabarro (the first of the three short operas of Il trittico), in which the illicit lovers Giorgetta and Luigi discover that they both grew up in Belleville. This gives them something in common right from the start, and establishes their working-class background. If you climb the hill to Belleville Park -- or ride up on a Velib' as I did -- you can get some wide views out over Paris. I took this photo on a beautiful but -- err -- somewhat cloudy day with the Eiffel Tower sticking up on the right and the Montparnasse Tower on the left. Second photo: Pavilion at the top of the hill in Belleville Park. Third photo: The hillside in Belleville Park. Fourth photo: The Eiffel Tower from Belleville Park. The area of St Germain is really diverse, depending on which number of the boulevard you're strolling around... From the 7th district (probably the most expensive of Paris), to the 5th (slightly more popular and full of schools and universities), through the 6th (and its fanciful shops), it's a boulevard I strongly recommend to walk on from one end to another... f* Leave a Comment

The Viaduc des Arts has been erected in 1859 for the railway Bastille - Vincennes. When the train was replaced by RER (line A) the line was disused but the viaduct was maintained as a "promenade plantée" (planted walkway). At the ground level, the arcades shelter shops, especially for artists. So, you can walk for 4 Km from Bastille to Porte de St Mandé along a green track on the viaduct and discover unusual views of Paris. The alternative is to go by the sidewalk and look at the shops. Jardins des Plantes in the 5th arr. near the Seine is another great park/garden in Paris. Maybe not as famous as Jardins du Luxembourg, but this park offers some other activities. Take your time to wander around a enjoy the millions of beautiful flowers, or enter one of the 'greenhouses' - a mexican and a tropical. The park also contains a small zoo and 'History of Nature Museum' - Museum national d'histoire Naturelle. The park opens when the sun goes op, and closes at sunset. You'll find the park at: Rue Cuvier, Rue Buffon / Place Valhubert Leave a Comment Phone: 01 40 79 30 00
