I found this boldly nude statue lounging about from behind Versailles in front of this pond. He looked comfortable. I don't know how he managed to look so cozy on such a cold day. Leave a Comment

King Louis XIV called himself the Sun King, and upgraded the hunting lodge his father built into probably the biggest palace complex in the world (Sultan of Brunei's palace is pretty large too). Frankly, I was disappointed with the Palace of Versailles because after the French Revolution, most of the beautiful treasures in it were plundered. The palace was full or people and while walking through the halls, we were pushed to move on by those behind us. Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna is much better, it still has its collection of art & furniture intact. The highlight of the palace is renowned 75m (250ft) Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors), where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, signifying the end of World War I. Admission is Euro8 for adults

One of the highlights of any trip to Paris is this grand palace. Not only is it totally ***ing cool, but also you can pretend to be a rich stuck up aristocrat if you wish. During the days of Marie Antoinett, even peasants were allowed to come and go into the inner chambers of this place. It was built so you and I could come check out their ***, and make sure they were on the up and up. I suggest you take a guided tour. I didn’t because it was too expensive at $88.00 per person. So we just took the metro out there and walked around the grounds. I was pissed for a week that I couldn’t go inside. But the tour picks you up in Paris, gives you a guide for the day, and you get to see EVERYTHING. Total time: 8hrs for this tour. FACTS: The Palace of Versailles began as a modest hunting lodge. Well, as modest a lodge as one could expect from a French King. Then Louis XIV enlarged and enrobed the old lodge, turning it into the great Chateau we know today. In 1837, Louis-Philippe converted the whole deal to a museum of French History in what may have been the historic starting point for the development of mass tourism. Versailles is half an hour by rail from the Gare St. Lazarre station in Paris . The Château is open from Tuesday to Sunday, except on certain French public holidays May-September 9 a.m. – 6.30 p.m. October-April 9a.m.-5.30p.m The park and the gardens are open every day except in bad weather from 7 a.m. in summer, 8 a.m. in winter, until sunset. So many windows, rooms, fireplaces, staircases that you can't really count and more than 1,800 acres of park. The paintings, tapestries, sculptures ,furniture of this fabulous castle , have been executed by the best Italian and French artists of the time. Be captivated by its majesty, gilded richness especially the Hall of Mirrors. It certainly left a lasting impression. The French certainly knew how to enjoy life. We can definitely take a page out of history. Then there are the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon with lovely gardens. When the King wants to get away, this is where he spent time with family.
