This is the famed L'As du Fallafel, made all the more famous because it's the favorite fallafel place of Lenny Kravitz. Known for being one of the best cheap meals in Paris, there's a walk-up window where you may place your order, pick it up, and proceed down the rue des Rosiers while eating your fallafel. Because this is a Jewish establishment, this place is closes 6pm Friday, but reopens 6pm Saturday. The best thing is that you'll find it open on Sundays!
When I popped by last November they were inexplicably closed with the façade of the restaurant side washed (and mere months after my photo made it into the article below). I read a blog of someone who lives in Paris who said sometimes it closes with no explanation. Hopefully, it's still up & running when I return!

But if you're going just for the fallafel, l'As du Fallafel is probably as good as it gets.
Bad luck this year it was closed --------->
on my Marais day, ( real smart going to Marais on Saturday ...doh! )
but in the past I've probably had the best shawarma & falafel sandwiches in my life here.
Falafel is great but imho the shawarma is to die for
(the floor is littered with happy shawarma-filled bodies).

This really is the best that I have eaten and that includes falafel in Israel. I haven't tried the schwarma. There is always a long line on Sundays. Leave a Comment

This place is always PACKED! Best falafel in the UNIVERSE! They also have a great selection of Middle Eastern style desserts.
You can either sit down or get take out.

Small hole-in-the wall restaurant with a to-go window. The line is long here for take out. There's seating for about 30 people and the place is always packed!
My friend Louisa and I were in Paris May 2006 and for dinner one night we went to L’As du Fallafel. We both ordered their Fallafel Special (6.50€): A large pita bread over stuffed with fallafel, hummus, grilled eggplant, cabbage, radish, tomato, cucumber. On the table was hot sauce, which we added to our sandwich. This was quite filling and so delicious! The hummus was the best I have ever tasted! We shared a small bottle of red wine. Total 15.50€ per person. We had a nice list of restaurants to choose from for our time in Paris and we both wish we had returned here for dinner (or lunch) on another day. This is a place I highly recommend and I can't wait to return to Paris to enjoy another Special! as much as we had heard about the place, it did not disappoint us. It was worth a trip to this Jewish quarter. The food was great and would definitely return. There are couple of Falafel places near this one, so beware and do not step in to the wrong one. This restaurant has morphed from a quiet shop selling excellent falafel to an exuberant New York-style diner. There are some cramped cafeteria tables inside -- where the service is remarkably decorous considering the din, and the walls are plastered with photos of famous patron Lenny Kravitz. Don't go on Saturday -- it's closed, as are most businesses in the quarter.

Such great memories at "Lenny Kravitz Falafel" In 1997 when i lived in Paris ( and worked at a nearby restaurant, my friends and i would often stop at this one of a kind, falafel shop for fast, delicious food. Made famous as one of Lenny Kravitz's favorite places in Paris, my friends had it at LEAST once a week. Reading the other reviews, I am thrilled to see this place is still around, and still high quality. If you are vegetarian, (or even if you're not) and in Paris, this is a must-go location.
