 | Paris Champs Elysées Reviews | 51 - 60 of 212 | | The Champs-Élysées, literally means the "Elysian Fields", is a broad and busy avenue. Its full name is actually "Avenue des Champs-Élysées". It is one of the most famous streets in the world because of the cinemas, cafés, boutiques, designer brandnames and luxury specialty shops that line both side of the avenue. The name refers to the Elysian Fields, the place of the blessed in Greek mythology. The Champs-Élysées has been called La plus belle avenue du monde ("The most beautiful avenue in the world"). The avenue runs for 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) from the Place de la Concorde in the east, with its Obelisk, to the Place Charles de Gaulle (formerly the Place de l'Étoile) in the west, location of the Arc de Triomphe. If you stand in the middle of the avenue, on the concrete island that divides the road, you can see the Arc de Triomphe on one end of the avenue, and the big Obelisk on the other end. The Champs-Élysées is a great place for shopping and people watching. Just make sure when you get there, take great care of your wallets because you will be very tempted to shop till you drop! LOL...

The Champs Elysées is definitely one of the most famous streets in the world. It has a length of 1880 metres and is 71 metres wide, leading from the Place de la Concorde towards the Place de l´Étoile. The name of the street comes from the Greek Mythology. There was a story telling about Elysean Fields, where the blessed lives. The parc of which the Champs-Elysées was made out, used to carry this name. TheRond Point des Champs-Elysées devides the avenue into two totally different pieces. The eastern part, towards the Place de la Concorde, is a peaceful parc, with kiosks, flower-beds and places to relax. The other side is totally different. This is the area of big companies, shoppingmalls, expensive restaurants, fast-food restaurants and tourism agencies. The Champs-Elysées has always been an area for huge events. Memorial Marches to celebrate the Liberation of the second World War, the place where Hitler himself showed the German power during the war, but also the place where the biggest cycling event in the world finishes every year: the Tour de France, and recently the place where thousands of French people did their best to get the Olympic Games of 2010 to their city. Possibly the most famous avenue in the world, Les Champs-Elysees is a tree-lined avenue stretching from Place De La Concorde to the Arc De Triomphe. I love those wide pavements and the view of the Arc De Triomphe as you get closer. The nicest part of the Avenue is at the Eastern end near the Place De La Concorde, awayfrom the shops, where water fountains, trees and benches can be found. Leave a Comment

At metro station "Charles de Gaulle-Etoile" is the ARC DE TRIOMPHE. Napoleon built it after his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805 but it finished in 1836. Its the largest in the world at 50 metres high. There is a Tourist Info near in case you stil dont have a map etc With 8 euros go up to the Arc and admire the traffic of the 12 avenue that start from here. One of them is the famous CHAMPS ELYSEES. You can walk the 2.2km avenue until PLACE de la CONCORDE, the largest square of the city. Here the guilotine was set for the execution of Louis XVI, Maria Antoinette and almost 3000 other people in period 1793-1795 The Ovelisque is a copy of the real one in Egypt. There are also 8 statues that symbol the main cities of France(Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Rouen, Strasbourg) at the corners of the square. Place de la Concorde is near of Tuileries Garden that is nice for a small walk until the entrance of the Louvre(in case you want to walk more in this huge but great museum)

This New York's 5th-avenue equivalent is not only similar in structure but similar in cleanliness. I am surprised, given the high-class boutiques that "littered" this long avenue, how hard it is to find a trashcan long the entire street. I walked and walked and couldn't find one. I guess that's why plenty of people leave their trash by the roadside, on the handrails of subway stairways etc. It's worth walking down this street just to check out the ostentatious architecture of some stores, and of course the Arc of Triumph at the end of the avenue. There is also a Tourist Information office near the Arc of Triumph. Leave a Comment

Champs Elysees refers to the "Elysian Fields" where happy souls dwelt after death, according to Greek mythology. It is a popular tourist destination and links Arc de Triomphe to place de la Concorde. I did enjoy myself walking along the streets especially the Disney store, Nike outlet and Planet Hollywood Cafe. It is definitely a good shopping place for branded goods. Directions: Exit metro station Champs Elysees Clemenceau

For most people you probably won't be doing much shopping along the Champs Elysee, because you're really not going to be finding any bargains and most of the stores are 'high end'. However, it's a street that's filled with hustle, people and a busy Parisian feel. A suggestion would be to take the Metro to the Arc De Triomphe and then after you've seen that walk down the Champs Elysee. Leave a Comment

Les Champs Elysees looked beautiful all lit up with little white fairy lights for Christmas. One of the most famous streets in the world, it houses exclusive shops, cafes and bars, cinemas and it's own theatre. They say this 2.6 mile avenue is the most beautiful avenue in Paris and there is activity at all times day or night. It will still be alive with people and cars at 3 am and I have even been in a traffic jam at that time! The tree-lined wide pavements and general opulance make it a very pleasant place to stroll at any time. It is not just for tourists though, the stree is very full of Parisian life, with school children, workers, film stars, musicians and tourists alike, all adding to the bustling atmosphere. You will encounter mopeds darting across the pavements and traffic police blowing their wistles frantically in attempt to keep some sort of order, which all add to it's charm. Take some serious money if you want to shop there, but a cafe in a smokey Parisian bar costs very little to soak up the atmosphere. Leave a Comment

Champs Elysee is great if you love shopping. It has a variation of stores from the expensive Louis Vuitton, Bulgari jewellery, shoe boutiques including designer shoes from Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Laboutin, Patrick Cox, Matthew Williamson and Gina heels (wow). I was in heaven but its not cheap. Bought a pair of Charles Jourdan heels for 240 euros in the end. You also have the more reasonable clothes stores like H&M, and Morgan de toi, Diesel and Miss Sixty also. Off one of the roads from the Champs Elysee you will find bar Man Ray, one of the best bars in Paris and owned by the gorgeous Johnny Depp and the not so gorgeous Sean Penn! It is on 34 Rue Marboeuf website is www.manray.fr/ .
