Eiffel Tower: What's Paris without the Eiffel?
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Eiffel tower has been cause of much debate and controversy among Parisians. Some love it, some hate it. However, it still draws millions of visitors each year, longing to have that Parisian experience, take pictures, and tell everybody at home that they have been to Paris and have pictures in front of the Eiffel tower to prove it.

Whatever your opinion is, if you are a first time visitor to Paris, the Eiffel Tower experience is a must. It will give you that feeling of validation and say to yourself, "yes, i have arrived in Paris".

The line ups, especially for the elevator is quite long. Get there early if you want to avoid crowds and long lines. The line up to take the stairs is much shorter, and walking up to the first level is not to strenious. I suggest walking up to the first level and taking the elevator to the 2nd and 3rd level from there.

There are souveneir shops in each level of the tower, and there are also cafes where you can get a light snack. Bring as little as possible, but don't forget your camera. The views from the top are breathtaking.

Eiffel Tower: Must see it - can't miss it!
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is probably nothing new to be said about this stupendous monument. One thing that has impressed me in surfing through the VT pages is from how many angles it has been photographed and how many different photos have been taken from the tower itself. My wife and I always take each other's picture with it in the background on every trip to Paris. Our last trip we traded 'photo ops' with a young couple so got us together. It is captivating to almost everyone. (I did read that one French writer hated it so much that he had lunch in the tower every day so he wouldn't have to look at it!). The first photo is from the elevator going up. I paid for a ticket to the top but acrophobia forced me off at the second level. Still a great view of Paris!

  • With the name reminding of the homonym Fort located near Cadiz, Trocadero offers the best view of Tour Eiffel, Seine and the Left Bank.

Made of white stone in 1939, Palais de Chaillot, located on the terrace, has two wings linked by a portico.

    Eiffel Tower: The Eiffel Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Eiffel Tower, the landmarks of Paris, was the concept of Gustave Eiffel that was involved also at the construction of the statue of liberty of New York. .
The building is unique and it surprises through its gigantic and extraordinary dimension.
The construction is a witness of a human will that wants to manifest his genius's size and was erected from occasion of the world's fair in the year 1889.
At that time, were the years of the industrial revolution, years of the advance and new technical achievements.
Many people insulted this universally known tower as an ugly monster and demanded its summary.
And however, more than 200 million people have it climbed, since its inauguration 1889. The most frequently is visited, the most upper platform, today from approximately six million tourists per year.
Quite no matter, as you it finds, you must see from the proximity, this marvel from 7000 tons of metal.
It is a grand line of metal at the Parisian heaven that seems to triumph over all the older buildings of the city.
If the old palaces and churches stand symbolically for the past, so the Eiffel tower is a symbol of the future conquests of the human being.
It is, altogether, 320 meters high and consists of more than fifteen thousand metal parts.
The weight of seven thousand tons rests on four pillars with a cement pedestal.
It is into three floors subdivided: the first is 57 meters high, the second 115, and the third 274 meters.
In each of these floors are restaurants and bars that invite the tourist to a break and offer him a unique gaze.

  • It's there, ruling and watching over Paris. Nothing new can be said about her, just that she's simply amazing. And beautiful. And one thing you must see before you die. Once, twice and all the times you want.
When it was built, it aroused fierce opposition. It was called "hollow candlestick" or "pitful lampost". Inagurated in 1889 for the World Fair, the Tour Eiffel became one of the best-known monuments on the planet.
    Key figures:
    324m high
    1,665 steps
    2.5 million rivets
50 tonnes of paint needed to decorate it
20,000 light bulb that sparkle at the beginning of each hour.

  • pictured is the tour eiffel from the the place du trocadero. the tower was built by gustave eiffel in 1889. originally it was to be a temporary structure as part of the universal exhibition of 1889. it was the world's tallest structure until the completion of the empire state building in 1931. there are elevators to the top but the lines are usually quite long.

Eiffel Tower: What's Paris without the Eiffel tower?
  • Tip Rating:
  • ...it's Paris (just without the Eiffel Tower)!

Paris is not at all only about the Eiffel tower, though of course, what's the trip without a snap shot of you with the massive tower on the background? Have you meet or knew anyone who visited Paris (especially for first-time visitors) who have not had a shot with the Eiffel tower? After all it's the most famous monument in the world.

Go up the tower during the daytime to see Paris fabulous view, and it is a very nice sight too during night time when it looks like a giant Christmas tree blinking fast.

Or join the people basking in the sun around the fountain and pool(?)

Eiffel Tower: View from the Eiffel Tower at Sunset
  • Tip Rating:
  • Well, everyone has their pictures taken from the Eiffel Tower, right? Most are probably better than mine but since I don't have too many pictures to share, I guess these will have to suffice...

We arrived there in the evening as this affects the picture, but still it was and is a memorable sight! It is a panoramic view unlike any other that I have ever experienced. When you think of the history and events that have ocurred on the very streets and in the buildings that you view from here, it provides an indescribable feeling and one that you must experience yourself... then you will better understand my meaning! Are you not here YET? :-)

Of course, your trip to Paris isn't complete without making a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Also, make sure to take a glimpse of the tower at night. During the first 10 minutes of every hour, the tower twinkles with thousands of flashing bright lights.

  • We arrived early in attempt to beat the queues and actually did rather well and only had to wait half an hour. There were others behind us that were even luckier because they opened another new queue behind us and people already waiting quite literally FLOCKED to the new line. Was very amusing.

Anyways, was quite happy I stayed in the line we were in because unbekownst to us it was the one that had the elevator all the way to the top. Gotta be happy about that after all the other completely necessary scaling of monumnets n Paris - my poor legs needed a rest!!

How to describe the Eiffel Tower... hmmm... although I thought the cost (full price 10.70 Euro) of scaling the tower was highway robbery considering the sheer amount of people waiting nearby to scale the thing too, it was completely wonderful. To give you some idea - in 2004 the Eiffel Tower had 6,230,050 visitors and similar figures for the previous years and if you do the figures my friends... wow!!

I was surprised at how high up we were... well I knew it was high, but its not until you are up there yourself looking down that you are confronted with the monstrous height of the structure. Completely amazing and the views are truly spectacular.

When we were there we couldn't help but notice all the security around the bottom of the tower. Friends of ours that were there not too long ago said that a guy pulled out a gun there and these security guards and others that you cant even see swarmed on him.... scary!!
