 | Paris La Seine and Its Bridges Reviews | 11 - 20 of 431 | | While I'm not sure if I think that this is the most beautiful bridge in Paris, it is most certainly the most elegant. It was opened in 1900 and connects the Grand Palais on the right bank and Invalides on the left bank. There are four corner pillars decorated with gilded bronze Pegasus and large lamposts circled with cherubs and nymphs. Leave a Comment Directions: Between Grand and Petit Palais and Les Invalides

The course of the Seine is, from which sources in Burgundy, to the canal coast, 776 kilometres long. In the year 1765, William Cole called the river a "messy ditch." Nowadays, the river is regulated, with an ingenious system of sluices. The water of the Seine became clearly cleaner in the last years. In the 37 Seine bridges, is mirrored, the entire Parisian construction history. The eldest and most famous bridge is called Pont Neuf (newcomer bridge). The bridge was built in the year 1604, and was, an abbreviation, for the way from the Louvre to the abbey of St-Germain-des-Prés. The newest bridge, opens 1999, is the Passerelle de Solferino, a metal-y footbridge from the Quai des Tuilleries to the left shore (near to the Musée d'Orsay). The most splendid bridge is, still, the Pont Alexandre III with gilt nymphs, bouncy horses, candelabra, lions and garlands. On the Seine, a trip to the legendary bateaux-mouches belongs to the standard program. Leave a Comment

The history of the city Paris was always, inseparably connected with the Seine. The river is, as it were, the lifeline of Paris. It flows through the heart of the city. Many wonderful constructions at the shore of the Seine, is mirrored in the river. Paris is one of the few metropolises that one can view quite well from the river. Meet and night, you can past-glide with the boat, at many sights, and many of the famous constructions and bridges, in new, magical light, admire. Only three centuries ago, served the Seine, as sewer. Simultaneously, the river was the main source, for drinking waters. Of course, served the Seine, also as trade route. Baden in the river, in the hot summer day, was, since 1609, an activity and a relaxation possibility. Nevertheless, swimming belongs to the past there. Much bateaux-mouches and other amusement boats pull past, on the Seine, at the famous sights. Leave a Comment

I was walking to and fro this bridge ...no , not because its too enchanting ...but because I forgot to visit some over here and there and I was desperately looking for some water. Saw so many Asian couple taking their wedding photos here ....hmmm..so dear VTers who are tying the knot soon ....here is the place The history Alexander III Bridge) is Paris's most elegant bridge, ornamented with fine sculpture work, adding its own charm to an already beautiful site. The golden mythical and biblical statues which adorn the bridge makes other bridges pale in comparison , I have see the Charles bridge in Prague and have to say that Pont Alexander III is more amjestic ...but again ...they have different history and beauty of their own. Built in only in a short period of two years by the engineers Résal and Alby, the first stone was placed by Tsar Nicholas II,but the structure was only opened at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. The keystones are decorated with two compositions in beaten copper representing, upstream, the Nymphes de la Seine (the Seine Nymphs) repesenting the arms of Paris, while tthe downstream, the Nymphes de la Néva (Nymphs of the Neva) the arms of Russia by G. Récipon. On the bridge parapet, at the foot of the pillars, are four enchanting or should I say dramatic groups of water spirits (nymphs) with fish and seashells sculpted in beaten copper by L. Morice and A. Massoule, while the four monumental candelabra surrounded by cupids and sea monsters are by the sculptor, H. Gauquic. Please make sure that you stock enough water supply coz you will be taking lots of pictures here and my experience told me that you have to walk quite a distance to get a bottle of water. To get to the Pont Alexander III: Left Bank: exit Métro Les Invalides, head north toward the Seine Right Bank: exit Métro Champs-Elysées Clemenceau, go south toward the Seine on Avenue Winston Churchill. When as pressed for time as we were, one simply must make the effort to take a tour on the Seine river. We boarded the Bateau Mouches tour company's boat, and were treated to a guided tour of the architectural wonders which line the river's banks. The two of us paid around 10 euro, a bargain by anyone's European standards for such a tour. Leave a Comment Address: On the north bank of the Seine

The richest and the most beautiful bridge in Paris is Alexander III Bridge. Tsar Nicolay II had placed the first stone in 1900 and the bridge was open in 1902. One the picture you see one of four 17 meters high pillars. The bridge is rich with sculptures. Leave a Comment

The bridges and sights along the Seine River just by walking is fascinating, more if you will take a boat ride and navigate the lovely and romantic river. Old building lined up the Seine which includes the Conciergerie where Marie Antoinette were imprisoned during the French Revolution, it's the oldest prison in France. This "Bridge of the Arts" is one of only four bridges in Paris (out of 37) that are reserved for "circulations douces", a nice French expression meaning soft or mild traffic, i.e. non-motorized. The other three are the Passerelle Solférino, connecting the Tuilerie Gardens with the Musèe d'Orsay, the Passerelle Debilly which leads to the Musée du quai Branly, and the new Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir, a footbridge that was built from 2004-2006 to connect the National Library François Mitterrand with the Parc du Bercy. The original Pont des Arts was built here from 1802 to 1804, and it lasted until 1979 when it collapsed after being hit by a barge. The present bridge, which is quite similar to the old one, was built between 1981 and 1984. The building at the end of the bridge in this photo is the Institut de France. Second photo: Looking up the Seine from the Pont des Arts towards Pont Neuf, with the Ile de la Cité (Square du Vert Galant) on the right and Paris Plages on the left. Third photo: Paris Plages 2008 as seen from the Pont des Arts. Leave a Comment Directions: Velib' 6001 Métro Pont Neuf GPS 48°51'30.14" North; 2°20'15.02" East

The Seine, that beautiful river that goes through Paris, showing you the best the city has to offer. Like many buildings, the Seine is one more thing that makes the city so beautiful. Walking along the border, taking a Baton Rouge, or seeing from the street is definately breathtaking. The many bridges that cross it are each one different, making every metre worth walking. Simply astonishing and worth the walk!!! Leave a Comment

On both my trips to Paris, I took boat tours along the Seine river, sometimes more than once. In my opinion the best time to go is right before sunset. You will witness Paris as the sunsets and as it becomes night. Nothing is more breathtaking. Since many of Paris main attractions are visible or are directly on the shores of the river, this is also a very pleasant way of seeing the sites. Besides the regular tours there are dinner cruises as well. Leave a Comment Address: Seine RiverDirections: Most of the tour boats operate near the Eiffel Tower.
