A good many of the most famous landmarks are visible from the Seine River. They are many boat tours available to take you down the river. It's a wonderful way to get familiar with much of the city. Then after the ride, you can then decide which sites have interested you and then visit them. Almost everything is within a 30-45 minute walk. Also, since these boats have a glass top so even if it's raining you should take this trip!

If you become overloaded with Art, you can quickly escape from the Louvre to the banks of the Seine through the Guichets (wicket-gates) du Carroussel from the Cour Napoleon. or at the Sw end of the galleries at the Pavillion de Flore or through a passageway (porte Champollion) out of the Cour Carree. The last is the quickest way to the Pont des Arts, a walking bridge over the Seine. It was the first iron bridge, built in 1803. From this structure you have the finest views in Paris (according to the Guide Michelin- 3* !!): the Seine both up and down, the Ile de la Cite, the Louvre and more. When you have recovered all of the Left Bank is within easy reach- The Quarters Beaux Arts, St-Germaine, St.-Severin and Latin. Leave a Comment

In Portugal we use to say that "one image speaks more than 1000 words". Having that in mind, and more than 1000 pictures to post, I decided to change my behaviour, posting the pictures as soon as they are ready, and adding the comments later. Don't get mad on me - I'm glad to share my pictures with you, and the comments will be added soon. Leave a Comment

Seine is not just a river,it’s the most beautiful pathway through Paris and from it can be seen the most surprising views of the french capital(see picture2) CRUISES(picture3): ------------------------ Traveling upriver from the Eiffel tower(picture4),you see the historic part of paris as Louvre and Chatelet,Musée d’Orsay,Notre Dame, and also the modern part of Paris as the ministry of finance and the huge towers of the national library.the best choice is 1 hour cruises of"bateaux parisiens"starting at the Eiffel tower aboard entirely glass-topped vessels.the ticket office is just under the Eiffel at the river bank, and the price is from 10 EUR.guide commentaries using personal players available in 13 languages, accompanied by music with Paris themes.at the last of our journey,we enjoyed singing together the famous and popular sing of Joe Dessin"Chams elysées" which was really fantastic and memorable. There are also some other cruise programs as on a panoramic boat with lunch,or glass-top boat with dinner, and others. THE BRIDGES: ----------------- Paris’s 36 bridges are all beautiful and panoramic: *The oldest and famous bridge is"Pont-Neuf"(means the new bridge!),built in 1576 ordered by Henri III after one of his closed frind’s burial, and was known as “bridge of the tears”in it’s own time.there you can see the Napelon’s figure, and the bronze horse which was dedicated to Mary-Henri IV’s wife- by tuscanian Duke in 1610,with the passenger-HenriIV- figure which was added by Luis IX in 1635. *the first iron bridge which connect the Institut de France to the Louvre was known as the Palais des Arts.it was a footbridge and had 9 arches.today it’s used for open-air exhibitions. *in my opinion, the most beautiful and attractive bridge,is"Pont-Alexandre III" between Grand & Petit Palais and les Invalides, built in 1900.(picture5) don't miss "une croisiére promenade" in paris! The river runs through the whole city of Paris, there are several calm quiet parts along the banks so you can just take time to relax if you've been walking around for too long. There are many bridges crossing over the river so you can get a nice shot of the river from the top as well as numerous well known sights in Paris that stand out. This transport bridge accomodates train and vehicle traffic across the Seine, and intersecting one end of Allée des Cygnes. If you make your way to the middle of this bridge, there is a excellent viewpoint looking out to the Seine and Eiffel Tower. The best time to go is in late afternoon when the sun is towards your back when you are looking at the tower. An equestrian statue "La France Renaissante" by Wederknich is there as well. Directions: Métro : Bir-Hakeim or Passy.

With a population of 2 million people spread over 1,100 square kilometers, Paris is an enormous city. Even for a veteran traveler, the first look at the Paris subway map is almost enough to bring you to your knees. The major sites are deceivingly far apart, and how could you ever figure out what attractions are located where? After a half day of wandering around the city half lost and riding the subways like mad, I finally decided to try the Bateau Mouches boats that ply the Seine river. These boats are almost cliche when talking about Paris -- for the locals, a "tourist trap." However, for a newcomer to Paris, the Bateau Mouches (pronounced Ba-TOH Moo-SHAY) boats are almost a godsend! Not only do they give you a chance to relax and get off your tired feet, but they offer a guided tour of the heart of Paris! The boats pickup along the north bank of the Seine, just west of the Louvre. The hour-long trip takes you west to the Eiffel Tower, then turns around, goes past the Louvre and turns again just past the Notre Dame. Along the way, you will hear the history of the city and see important sites such as the Grand & Petit Palaces, the National Assembly, the Musee d'Orsay, and the Ile de la Cite. In my opinion this is a must-see orientation journey for anyone's first trip to Paris. The cost is about 7 Euros, and boats depart every 20 to 30 minutes in the summer months. In the winter months, there are only about 5 departures per day.
