 | Paris La Seine and Its Bridges Reviews | 61 - 70 of 431 | | Walk along the River Seine to enjoy the atmosphere, to see some beautiful bridges (most famous:Pont Alexandre III, Pont des Arts, and Pont Neuf) and admire some monuments like Tour Eiffel, Musee du Louvre, and Notre-Dame. It can take you hours but trust me... you will love it! Do it again another day, during the night this time and you will see why Paris is called "city of lights"! Between the Louvre and the Institut de France there is a bridge just for pedestrians that crosses the Seine. What I liked most along the Seine were some street scenes, painters doing their job peacefully, old people feeding birds etc If you take a boat tour with Bateaux Mouches do it the first day so you can have a nice view of almost all the famous monuments. For second hand books/posters and souvenirs walk between the Pont des Arts and Pont Neuf. These bookstalls(Les Bouquinistes) are located just opposite from the Notre Dame Cathedral.

The Siene has great history, and you can travel on its water. We took a taxi boat around the Seine to get to many of the sites. The leisurely boat going down, or up the river lets you take in all the shoreline sites to see. You can stop at many destinations and then re-board and continue the tour. Another way to see the city at night is to take a boat ride when the lights are all illuminated on the buildings. This is a site to remember. The best and most elaborate bridge, probably of all time is Pont Alexander. It was finished in 1900, and it was decorated with a ribbon braid of wreath along the bottom part, and statues at both ends of gilded gold covering. The neat thing is to go slowly under it and appreciate all the artwork after so many years of people treking over it in good and war times. Its purpose was to connect the right and left bank for easier access by royalty. The other bridge is called Pont Neuf, or new bridge. Now old at 4500 years, it was first ordered to be built by Henry III and has a lot of history over its pathway.

The Seine is crossed by many old and beautiful bridges. The picture here is a detail of a bridge called Ponte Alexandre III. Many consider the Pont Alexandre III the most beautiful bridge in Paris with its' lampposts and sculptures of cherubs and nymphs. Also many of the most famous Paris monuments are on the river banks. For these reasons, a Seine river cruise on a bateaux-mouche, a typical Parisian riverboat, is a great way to get to know the city and its' attractions. A river cruise is also very relaxing after a few full days of visits and shopping in Paris ;) You can also choose a lunch or dinner cruise although some say the dinner cruises are very expensive compared to what you get... For example Paris by Night tours offers these 5-hour dinner cruises for the price of 129 euros. The Seine river banks are beautifully illuminated at night so a cruise after sun's gone down is a pleasure. Leave a Comment Directions: Several companies on the riverbanks Seine, e.g. Pont Alma.

If you really want to enjoy the sights of Paris, you really need to take one of the Seine cruises, only I strongly recommend you do this at night. The lights are all on, and you get an incredible impression of the city and it's "artistic balance". The bridges, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame are all lit, and the impression is very strong. There are different types with all different prices, some include dinner and are in boats with glass covers, while others are on "double-decker boats with open tops. (take a sweater and/or windbreaker) They all give you a narrative. Plus you can spy on the locals as they enjoy their evenings along the river. Address: Along the Seine

The booksellers along the embankment of the Seine are endlessly fascinating on a sunny day. This picture is of my father and myself in the early 1970s. . You can find old books, of course -- postcards, reproduction prints and posters of old movies and old Paris. Nothing is cheap! Leave a Comment Address: along the quais of the Seine near St. Michel

This is such a nice way to see Paris' sights. And it's sooooo romantic, too! The cruise will go all the way around Ile de la Cité and to Eiffel Tower. It takes approx. an hour and cost 8.35 Euro (55F) when we were there. There was a student doing live commentary which I thought was very nice (I hate these tapes) and you get a brochure with descriptions of all the sights you see. See my Travelogue with all the pictures I took from the boat. Leave a Comment Directions: We took a boat by Les Vedettes de Pont Neuf. They start at the top of Ile de la Cité at Pont Neuf (hence the name ;).Website: http://www.pontneuf.net

When visiting Paris you absolutely must take a cruise down the "Grande Rue" of Paris, La Seine! This is a relxing way of experiencing the city. Many sites, famous and not so famous come into view, creating a desire to see more and more of Paris. Fondest memory of Paris: The Island in the middle is connected to the main land on either side by beautiful old bridges. Later I went back to the Seine, I crossed many of those bridges and though I got lost several times I never felt anything but awed at the things I saw. There were bookstores, outdoor cafes, guards standing at attention, refreshing fountains and parks to rest in, old and beautiful buildings, people strolling along the quay and a great little restaurant that I stop to have lunch at. Later I found out the names of some of the places I had been to such as the "Left Bank" in the Latin Quarter and other places, such as the restaurant, I never did get the name of. I wish for you such unforgettable experiences! Leave a Comment

In Paris you might run into some famous people - along the Seine you will surely meet this famous fellow - Simon Bolivar, the legendary liberator of South America, riding his horse along the scenic river. He stayed in Paris for some years and it is said that once he met Alexander von Humboldt talking about the future of South America....Humboldt agreed that the time is ready for a change, but said he could not see the person who would be capable of liberating this continent from the Spanish Colonial rule. This person was sitting right in front of him, without knowing it yet ;-) Leave a Comment

A nice way to explore Paris along the river Seine is by taking a cruiseboat. Cruises are offered at day as well as at nigh (highly recommended) and start right at the foot of the Eiffel Tower at Bateaux Parisiens - Pier 3, Port de la Bourdonnais and goes all the way past Ile de la Cite and back for about 1 hour. Commentary on the monuments are offered in 13 languages on handsets. An alternative tourstart is also offered from Ile de la Cite. Prices were 11 EUR for adults. http://www.bateauxparisiens.com/EN/boats-cruises-paris-seine-uk.html http://www.bateauxparisiens.com/EN/offers-cruises-seine-paris/cruise-sightseeing-leisures-paris/sightseeing-cruise-seine-paris-eiffel-tower.html http://www.bateauxparisiens.com/EN/offers-cruises-seine-paris/cruise-sightseeing-leisures-paris/sightseeing-night-cruise-paris-seine.html Leave a Comment
