 | Paris Louvre Reviews | 41 - 50 of 863 | | Going to Paris without going to the Musee du Louvre is almost unthinkable. It is very touristy indeed, and I know that there are plenty of other museums worth visiting, but the Louvre is just something not to be ignored. The Louvre is divided into separate wings. Each wing houses different types of art: french, italian, sculptures, asian, egyptian atiquities, etc. It is ambitious to think that the Louvre can be seen in one visit. I suggest that you research and decide what you would like to see and go on your tour from there. Audioguides in different languages (English, Japanese, Italian, German), are available. For those who have limited knowledge when it comes to art (like me), the audioguides are necessary in order for you to appreciate the experience. There are plenty of souveneir shops outside, as well as regular stores where you can buy anything from sunglasses, to clothes, to make up. The restrooms are very clean (especially compared to other public restrooms in Europe), but like all others in Paris, you have to pay a fee to use. There are restaurants outside where you can relax and take a break. Leave a Comment

This palace is the largest museum in the world and houses a collection of over 300,000 works of art. After the Revolution Napoleon converted it into a museum. The Louvre is divided into three sections Denon, Sully and Richelieu and each of its 3 floors is color-coded to help guide you through. Its collections are distributed into seven departments: Oriental antiques, Egyptian antiques, Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiques, Objects of Art, Sculptures, Paintings and Prints and Drawings from the Middle Ages to 1850. Entry to the Louvre is through a glass pyramid in the central courtyard. It is almost impossible to see everything that this museum has to offer in one single day. My advice would be to select what it is you wish to see before entering the museum. Leave a Comment

Le Louvre is an amazing museum. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a big art museum fan. But the Louvre had me hooked. The museum is massive with a wide array of artwork. I heard that to see every piece exhibited without just running by would take nearly a month! Just the architecture of the museum itself is fantastic. Take plenty of time to walk around the vast structure as it is part of the attraction. At 8.50 Euros for admission (6 Euros after 6pm), the museum is a bargain considering all that one gets to see. Among my favorites are: The Winged Victory of Samothrace - At over 2000 years old, this sculpture is still looking quite good! The Sculpture greets you as you walk up some stairs in the Denon wing. I felt that the head and arms missing simply add to the feeling of movement. Mona Lisa - The greatest thing about the Mona Lisa is that it is the Mona Lisa. The painting itself did not blow me away. What blew me away is that it is probably the most famous piece of artwork in the world. And given the importance of art across societies, that means a lot. And there it was, standing there in front of me. Pretty cool. Venus de Milo - Another oldie, but goodie. The Venus de Milo statue is also over 2000 years old. Even though the goddess of love and beauty is missing a couple arms, she is still a sight! Jacques-Louis David's Consecration of the Emporer Napoleon I - I have always thought this was an amazing painting. While Pius VII stands there, Napoleon crowns himself. Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People - Depicts the 1830 July Revolution. Leave a Comment

This beautiful and sophisticated collection includes objects of art from Iran, Egypt, Syria and India: from the wooden door panel with plant ornamentation from the Palace of Djawsaq al-Khaqani from Iraq to the Koran desk, from the writing tools to the large dish with rings of fish (Mongol Iran), etc. The gorgeous Mantes carpet, that once covered the floor of a church, is displayed in the center of the gallery. From the Ottoman world, colorful ceramic from Iznik (Turkey) are presented, but also a red and blue mosque carpet. Directions: M: Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre

The greatest museum of art in all of France, the Louvre is one of the worlds great museums. It houses a huge collection of arts and artifacts spanning 5000 years of human history, from the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia to the 19th Century. The Louvre however is most famous for its paintings, including Leonardos de Vinci's Mona Lisa. It is perhaps the most famous single painting in the world. The Louvre is actually a palace built in the 17th Century by Louis XVI built on the foundations of a much older structure. French kings have in fact lived here from the 13th Century. Constructed to house the royal art collections, it gradually grew and expanded over the centuries to become perhaps the greatest repository of art in the world. *NOTE: Photography is now prohibited in the Italian and Spanish Painting Galleries in the Denon Wing. The same goes for the Large Format French Paintings Gallery.

The first time I visited the Louvre Museum the glass pyramid wasn't still there. The second time I didn't only come back to see another part of the numerous paintings, sculptures and artefacts, but especially the pyramid. It's designed by the Chinese-born American architect Ieoh Ming Pei. This pyramid has a square base of 35.4M and a height of 21.6M. Also after my second visit I haven't seen all in the museum. I saw the archaeological parts with artefacts from the Middle East, Egypt, Greece and the Roman era. And of course I had a look at the Venus of Milo and the Mona Lisa and many other masterpieces of art. Too huge to appreciate on a short visit. The building itself and the mall (Carousel du Louvre) off the Metro stop is a full day of enjoyable "work." I didn't even attempt to negotiate the Louvre until my second trip to Paris, and then just one wing (Denon) took up a whole afternoon. But it was definitely a very enjoyable afternoon. One suggestion: the Louvre is a great place to pick up a 1,3, or 5-day museum pass for all the Paris museums... a great deal. And why anyone stands in the line outside at the glass pyramid is beyond me when you can walk right in almost all the time down inside in the mall-like entrance (Carousel du Louvre) just off the Palais Royal Musee du Louvre metro stop. You can buy your passes there quickly also. Online it can be purchased here as well: Paris Museum Pass from Rail Europe Leave a Comment Address: 99, rue de Rivoli 75001Phone: 33(0)1 40 20 53 17 (information)Directions: Metro stop--Palais Royal Musee du LouvreWebsite: http://www.louvre.fr/louvrea.htm

Incredible, Amazing ... No words. Just the building itself deserves the visit. The Mesopotamia area with the code of hammurabi and the Archers, deserves a whole day to be able to enjoy them. The Egypt, Greek, Roman and Etrusc are one of the biggest selection in sculptures (sorry British Museum lol) The picture section is amazing too Look you need a moth to visit this place, if not you just have a glimpse of what it is. As I feel now. the most funny moments .. of course the crowd of people doing photos of La giaconda and the Venus of Nile lol Remember that is closed on Tuesdays and that Mondays and Wednesdays are open some (only some) areas of the Museum. Famous for housing Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," the Louvre is the home of many rare collections of art. Give yourself plenty of time to see the main sights...the museum is huge! I definitely recommend the English walking tour. The tour cost 3 euros and it lasted about 2 hours. They showed several major works throughout the Louvre and, of course, the Mona Lisa. It was a great way to get through the crowds, to see some of the larger sights and to get an overview and history of the Louvre itself. Also, we were only two of three people that took that tour. We had a nearly private tour of the Louve with a Parisian University Historian. Leave a Comment
