 | Paris Montmartre / Sacré Coeur Reviews | 51 - 60 of 678 | | This is a very pretty area of Paris, its very easy to see why this is the centre of creativity - many artists and musicians reside here. It is somewhat touristy though, but the cobbled streets and small cafes and shops still have a nice atmosphere to them. Definatly a great place to wander and relax in, here you will also find Paris's oldest church on the Place du Tetre - St.Pierre. Leave a Comment

Although very touristy, Place du Tertre is a lovely little square not to be missed. Here, you will find artists showing their art. The square is located on top of the hill in one of the sidestreets of Sacre Coeur. Leave a Comment Directions: Montmartre Metro station: Abbesses, Anvers, Chateau Rouge Metro line 12, 2, 4

Did you know that Paris has a vineyard? On the hill of Montmartre, you will find the last vineyard of Paris. It is rather small. On the first Saturday of October you can see how they celebrate the grape harvest. My experience of this neo-byzantine building was brief but enough to desire a return visit. And the most recent trip afforded me at least two visits to the church. It is the highest natural point in Paris and the view was incredible especially at sunset. We were all jet lagged the first time we came here but we sat out on the steps and snapped photos of the group and all of that necessary blah blah blah. But the walk through the church was the better experience. It is respectful to be quiet as you walk through as, often, there are people praying and the typical schedule of services is always going on. It was cool to walk around the dim church and see the architecture. Construction of the church began in 1875, after two catholic businessmen had vowed to erect such a church if Paris was spared from invasion during the Franco-Prussian war. It was finished in 1914 but not dedicated until after the first world war. The style of the architecture, as I mentioned, is influenced by the Romano-Byzantine era. Outside, get a good look at the facade of the church and all of the sculptures incorporated into it. Inside, look for the Mosaic of Christ inside the main dome, designed by Luc Olivier Merson and Marcel Magne. Getting here may involve a little climbing. 205 steps or the funiculaire (one metro ticket will get you a ride to the top), you choose. Leave a Comment Address: 35, RUE DU CHEVALIER-DE-LA-BARREDirections: Get off at Abbesses Metro stop head east on Rue Yvonne Le Tac, in the southeastern corner of Place des Abbesses, continue straight onto Rue Tardieu. To your left, shortly will be the stairs and the funiculaire.Website: http://www.sacre-coeur-montmartre.com/

Montmartre and Sacre Coeur is one of those things not to missed during your visit in Paris. To make the best pic of the white basilica, go in the morning on a sunny day. You will have the best view from the garden at the bottom of the hill. Looking up at this bright basilica high on that hill is just breathtaking. This church was built after the French-German war in 1870. Two business men made a promise that if France would be spared from the attack, they would have a church built to honour the Holy Hart of Christ. All the artists gather around in this place and exhibit their works of arts. Their artwork is really amazing. I have nothing but praises for them. Some paint on the spot and many can also draw self-portraits of you for a price. If you have the money to spend, you can even buy the art pieces back. Cash/credit cards are accepted. Leave a Comment Directions: You can walk from the metro station "Anvers" to Sacré-Coeur Basilica. Place du Tertre is just beside it.

This place was packed on the day that we visited! It was raining and you just couldnt move for the people there, but the reason that so many people visit this magical area is because its truly wonderful! So many artists, all around the square, silouhettes and portraits, some brilliant pieces of art too! Expect to pay around 50 euro for a self portrait and 20 euro for a silhouette. Leave a Comment

The first time I went inside I cried at it beauty, the nuns were singing and it was just magical, I vowed if ever I had children I would take them there to have that same experience.10 years later I did return with my son and yes he felt the same thing as I had done. He vows to take his children when he has them. Leave a Comment

Visit this church located outside of the heart of central Paris. The views from the steps of the Sacre Coeur are amazing!!! The interior of the church contains one of the worlds largest mosaics, and depicts Christ with outstretched arms. "The nearby bell tower contains the 'Savoyarde'. Cast in Annecy in 1895, it is one of the worlds heaviest at 19 tons." Go to the top of the Dome on a clear day and get a beautiful view of all of Paris. Get off at the Anvers metro station and head up “Rue de Steinkerque” past the Arab discount shops and you will run into the Sacre-Coure (Sacred Heart), After the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, it was proposed to construct a church to the Sacred Heart on the butte Montmartre as an act of national pentinence. he plans for the new basilica called for an edifice of Romano-Byzantine style, and the first stone was laid in 1875. Completed in 1914, it was not consecrated until 1919 after World War I had ended The interior of the church contains one of the worlds largest mosaics, and depicts Christ with outstretched arms.
