The Musée D'Orsay is an extraordinary building that was the former Orsay train station. This national museum presents western art from 1848 to 1914. It combines collections from the Louvre, the Jeu de Paume and the Musée National d'Art Moderne. It opens on Tuesdays, so if you don't want to spend hours and hours inside the Louvre, this museum has just the perfect size to be seen in about 3 to 4 hours. Tuesdays is when it's most crowded, since the Louvre is closed, but it's not a huge crowd. Definately the visit is worth it. Musee D'Orsay is a museum that is set in an old railway station. The museum itself is very nicely laid out. It lacks the obvious opulance and flashiness of the Louvre, but instead is very minimal and clean in it's design. The museum houses predominantly impressionist art. It has an impressive Van Gogh collection, as well as some exquisite Rodin and Michelangelo sculptures. The Monet, Manet, and Renoir collections are also not to be missed. Leave a Comment

Musee d'Orsay specializes in more modern art than the Louvre, especially painting and scuplure from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The masters from that period are exhibited here: Rodin, Manet, Gaugin, Renior & Monet, just to name a few. Impressionist, Neo-Impressionist, Art Noveau are all represented here. The building that houses the Musee d'Orsay was, at one time, a railroad station, a sense you get when you spend time here. The station was built in time for the 1900 World Fair. The building served many other purposes, including as the set for many films, until 1986 when it was re-christened as the Musee d'Orsay. It's now one of the top museums and indeed, attractions, in all of Paris. I spent a little over three hours at the Musee d'Orsay - you won't need nearly as much time as you would in the Louvre, for example. It's located in the St. Germain des Pres section of Paris, right on the Left Bank. Leave a Comment

The Musée d'Orsay houses an impressive collection of European art dating from 1848 to 1914. It is situated across the river Seine from the Tuileries gardens, in a converted 19th century railway station. The Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collections are not to be missed. Renoir, Cézanne, Manet, Monet, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec are well represented, and the museum boasts the best collection of Van Gogh's paintings outside the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The museum is open every day (except Mondays) from 9h30 to 18h00 (on Thursdays to 21h45). Entrance fee: 7,50 Euros Address: 1 Rue de la Légion d'Honneur, 75007 ParisPhone: +33 (0) 1 40 49 48 14Directions: Métro: Line 12, Solférino station RER: Line C, Musée d'Orsay stationWebsite: http://www.musee-orsay.fr/

Orsay has some of the best art and sculpture in Paris. Van Gogh, Cezanne, Degas, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Rodin, and on and on... some of their best work is right here. The magnificent location in what was an old train station has been done in grand style. The art especially Impressionist & post-Impressionist filled me with pleasure and took a whole day to absorb the first time. Both a self-serve cafe and a full-service restaurant (with a view of the city) upstairs in the museum that serve decent & healthy food... a necessary break for my brain in the prescence of so much great art. You can buy a museum pass for the Orsay and lots of other Paris museums & attractions that allow bypassing all the lines for admission online here: Click below: Orsay and Paris Musee Pass or at the main Paris TI office on the Champs Elysees. Some guidebooks claim you can also get this pass at main (e.g. Montparnasse Bienvenue) Metro stations. For me a trip to Paris without a visit to the Orsay is incomplete. Check out their website here: Orsay Museum Until you do get a chance to see the Orsay, go to the website, or even better, treat yourself to a "virtual visit" with this software: Virtual Orsay Software Musee d'Orsay: Virtual Visit can be purchased on the internet for much less, sometimes for approx. $20. Last visit August 2008 The Musee d'Orsay is my favorite art museum in Paris, perhaps even in the world as it features my favorite period for art, impressionism, the collection covers the years between 1848 and 1914 and I believe it is the best impressionist art collection in the world. I think we have visited on each of our 5 trips to Paris, c'est magnifique! The building itself was built as a train station for the 1900 World's Fair and was opened as the Musee d' Orsay in 1986. The line for the museum is usually long, I kissed my museum pass as we strolled up to the special entrance and waltzed right in. Worth the price just for that! If I had just a short period of time I would walk to the opposite end of the museum from the entrance and take the escalators straight up to the 5th level to the impressionist and post-impressionist collection including many works by Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas and all of the other famous impressionist painters. You'll also find many of these same artisits on the ground floor in the pre-impressionist collection. Closed: Monday opening hours 9:30am-6pm, Thursday until 9:45pm included on museum pass (make sure to go to special entrance C to skip the ticket queue), discount rate after 6pm on Thursday, 4:15pm other days Leave a Comment

With limited time, I walked across the bridge over to D'Orsay Museum, a renovated train station turned art museum. An architecture beauty but I was more interested in the painting collections of Western art of the turn of 20th Century from 1850 to before World War I. Here are my favorites: 1) Paul Cezane "Apples and Oranges" - still life 2) Edouard Manet "Luncheon on the Grass" - considered scandalous in his days 3) Auguste renoire "Dance ... Montmarte" - spirit of Parisian life 4) Vincent van Gogh - several strong pieces and less famous version "Starry Night". I recommend a bit of reading of history of art and the master pieces from museum website, online sites or your library before visiitng this stunning collection of so many famous artists. An hour visit again is better none. Address: Walking distance from Louvre MuseumWebsite: www.musee-orsay.fr Other Contact: Closed Mondays

Musee d'orsay only cost 5,03 Euros and was worth ten times more than that. If you love Monet you will love this museum. I wouldnt overlook this place. They have three waterlillies by monet including the blue waterlillies. My favorite painting was of the Jardin de tuillieuries (if anyone knows where i can get a copy of it i would appreciate it) Leave a Comment
