Don't bother with the ticket machines at RER stations. They are desperately confusing and only appear to show a very limited number of stations at first glance, and you really have to know what you are doing to get them to do what you want them to. It's much better to wait in the queue and deal with a real person, who was happy to help me even with my broken French. Leave a Comment

Les Halles is an area of Paris, France, located in the 1er arrondissement. It is named for the large central wholesale marketplace, which was demolished in 1971, to be replaced with an underground modern shopping precinct, the Forum des Halles. It is notable in that the open air center area is below street level. It is like a pit which contains sculpture, fountains, and mosaics. Beneath this lies the underground station Châtelet-Les-Halles, central hub of Paris's express urban rail system, the RER. Leave a Comment

RER trains do not necessarily stop at every station on the line. Above the platform, there is a sign that lists all the stations. If your station is lit up, then you can get on the next train. Otherwise, wait or else you're in for a detour. Leave a Comment

RERs are faster than the metro, the stations are four times further apart than the metro ones and also the interval between trains is longer. That's because RERs transport people into the suburbs of Paris. By example, you will have to take the RER to reach Chateaux de Versailles, one of the must see residence of the french leaders in Paris. Be careful at tickets, because most RER tickets are different from the normal "t" ticket. Check out the website for details. Most of the trains have two storeys, and from the top one you can see better while speeding trough Paris. Leave a Comment

This is the easiest way to get to Versailles as far as I know. Catch the train by the Seine on the left bank near Notre Dame. You then have a several block walk to get to Versailles from there, easily done. Leave a Comment

When returning to CDG airport on the RER trains, retain the ticket right to the very end of the ride to the airport. You will need it to exit the RER gantry at the airport, so don't dispose it.

The easiest way to go to Disneyland from Paris is by RER. Line A takes you straight to the enterance of the parc (station Chessy - Marne-la-Vallée). Further you can at all main metro and RER stations buy a combined ticket for transport and entrance. The ticket is called "Passeport Disneyland Resort Paris" and the price is EUR 39. You more or less get the transportation for free this way compared to the normal admission fee at the parc. If you go there by RER without bying the combined ticket then remember to by the ticket for the return trip in advance. The queue at the station for bying tickets is normally quite long in the evening since many people are leaving the parc at the same time. Leave a Comment

Cheapest would be RER train service, nothing wrong with public transport. SNCF is the other term. However when you arrive get a private taxi. A taxi direct will cost you lots of euros. Leave a Comment
